Commissioner backs calls to #AccelerateAction for women in Lancashire

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner supported more than 13,000 female victims of crime through its commissioned services and invested more than £4.7 million into initiatives to make streets safer and prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG) in 2023/4.

Dr Anna Hopkins, Chief Executive for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire, has also convened a cross-party MPs group to discuss emerging issues around violence against women and girls (VAWG) and to lobby government on pressing VAWG issues in Lancashire.

She is set to join an East Lancashire panel on IWD to discuss best practices in combating VAWG, a top priority in Commissioner Grunshaw’s Police and Crime Plan.

Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said: “I am proud to support International Women’s Day 2025 and everything it represents. In Lancashire, we are committed to accelerating action every day by investing in community projects and victim services that support women.

“Serious issues like domestic abuse often disproportionately affect women, and we cannot accept this. Through education, awareness-raising, and community mobilisation, we can change harmful attitudes and practices towards women. We must continue to invest in prevention and early intervention strategies to break the cycle of abuse.

“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I am committed to making significant strides towards gender equality and supporting my Office in improving services and outcomes for women across Lancashire.”
