Speaking at an event in Lancaster, which brought together businesses and organisations, Commissioner Grunshaw spoke about the work he has done since his re-election in May, as well as how he will deliver his vision for policing following the launch of his new Police and Crime Plan this week .
The main issues raised included retail crime, together with how Lancashire Constabulary is working to address the ‘epidemic’ seen nationally in issues such as shoplifting, alongside the prevention of anti-social behaviour.
Both the Commissioner and representatives from Lancashire Constabulary highlighted the work being done through Operation Centurion to tackle ASB in all its forms, alongside the steps taken to tackle retail crime through Operation Vulture.
Recent figures showed that since the launch of Op Centurion in July 2023, Lancashire Constabulary has made 3,548 arrests, and issued 826 civil actions. Operation Vulture, launched in response to the National Retail Crime Action Plan, has seen 2,100 positive outcomes for shoplifting offences since March.
Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said:
“It was great to talk directly to people from a range of different businesses across the Lancaster and Morecambe area, about my new Police and Crime Plan and key priorities for the next four years, which mirrored many of the key concerns being raised by the Chamber’s membership.
“Whether it’s tackling anti-social behaviour in our town centre’s through Operation Centurion, or addressing the damage caused by retail crime with Operation Vulture, I am committed to scrutinising the Chief Constable to make sure we deliver the most efficient, effective policing we can, tackling crime and protecting people across the county.
“The focus in my Police and Crime Plan is clear; working together, preventing crime and addressing the root causes of offending. This is coupled with strong enforcement that people rightly expect to see, through strong leadership and tough scrutiny.”
Graham White, Head of Operations, Lancaster and Morecambe Chamber of Commerce said:
“Lancaster and Morecambe Chamber of Commerce were delighted to host a special session with the Police and Crime Commissioner and Lancashire Constabulary.
“It was great to hear about Commissioner Grunshaw’s crime plan for the next four years. It is reassuring to know that key priorities such as tackling retail crime and anti-social behaviour are being actively addressed. The commitment shown through initiatives like Operation Centurion and Operation Vulture is crucial to ensuring our town centres remain safe and welcoming for all.
“The Chamber remains dedicated to supporting these efforts and working collaboratively with local authorities. It’s clear that by working together in partnership, we can create a safer and more thriving environment for both businesses and communities.”
